"We are not complaining about the work. We want to see our hard work reflected in our pay." -Emmett J. Bogdon
Thesis
There are many reasons why we decided to choose the topic of the Formation of Labor unions. It was, for one thing, very representative of this year's theme, rights and responsibilities in history. The unionized workers gained many rights when they joined unions, and the employers in turn had a lot of responsibilities, including to make sure that they fulfilled the workers' rights. Also, this topic had lots of causes and effects that we could build on. Finally, we figured this would be an original topic, that we would like to learn about, and that most other students wouldn't know as much about. We then proceeded to choose our category. We originally wanted to do a documentary, because we thought this would be good in video form, but then realized that there would not be enough time to make one, so we decided to make a website.
To do this, we need to research information. We decided to learn about: life before the unions, or the causes; life after the unions, or the effects; effects on the modern world, or the long term effects; and why unions were important. To do this we looked mostly on the internet, we looked for primary sources, but could not find many, so we settled with using a lot of websites to cross reference, to insure the integrity of our information.
